Described by Peruvian judge and breeder, Pepe Risso Jr. as a horse that he believes will be one of the "top sires in the country", EG Montserrat has the following qualities:
BLOODLINES- Montserrat is by FG Candela, a son of the Laureado Peruvian stallion, JRM Predilecto (Sol de Paijan X JRM Maracuya)out of the mare FG Recaramela (Caramelo). Montserrat's dam was TGR Inti Llapa, by Oro Viejo, a son of Sol de Oro Viejo and the horse whose photo was used by Raul Risso in an article on the ideal conformation of the Peruvian horse.
CONFORMATION- National Champion in Merito Zootecnico for 3 years in a row, Montserrat has truly outstanding conformation. He is strong, correct, true to type and built to gait. He also has one of the most beautiful heads of any stallion in the breed today. He combines an elegant neck, short back, and strong powerful rump with depth of body, width of chest and wonderful angle in the hock and shoulder.
GAIT- Montserrat is not just another pretty face. He has won in gait classes and has also been "Best Gaited Horse of Show". He combines reach and drive in the rear, with just the right amount of lift and termino to be showy, yet incredibly smooth. He has wonderful depth of gait (thread)and can maintain his gait when other horses have to canter to keep up.
PRESENCE- From the time he was born, Montserrat had the kind of elegance and presence that is the essence of an outstanding show and breeding horse. We are pleased to report that he is consistently passing on that elegance to his offspring.
TEMPERAMENT- Probably the most important quality in a breeding stallion is temperament. Montserrat has true "brio"- that wonderful quality of controlled energy that is the hallmark of the Paso horse. He is calm and quiet to handle, yet energetic and powerful under saddle.
SHOW RECORD- Montserrat has been described as one of the most complete show horses on the circuit today. As a colt, he was National Champion Junior Stallion, Best Bozal Horse, as well as Harry Bennett Award winner. As a stallion, he has won Merito Zootechnico, Gait and numerous Champion of Champions Breeding Stallion titles including the title of Laureado Breeding Stallion at the Southeastern Regional Show. He was also 2001 Futurity Reserve Champion Breeding Stallion.
OFFSPRING- Montserrat is producing outstanding foals that have the conformation, gait and temperament of their sire. WF Patriarca (EG Montserrat X Dona Luisa), is a three-time National Champion and also won Junior Champion Stallion at the 2001 Futurity. A Montserrat daughter MVF Elegancia won the yealing filly class at the 2002 Nationals and a Montserrat son, WF Relevo was recently shown for the first time in bozal and won his class.
We also have two outstanding young stallions;
EG MONTERO, a son of Iqueno Joven, and
EG ALMANZOR a son of EG Montserrat that is a larger version of his famous sire. Both stallions are well gaited with tremendous presence. These young stallions are standing at stud for the low introductory fee of $1,000.
